Production Manager, Second Shift

Job Description

The Print & Mail Production Manager is one of the key drivers for planning and execution of complex master production schedules for all direct mail and package campaigns. They will assist in holding the organization accountable to critical dates to ensure production schedule is met and clients are happy. They must manage and lead the team to effectively coordinate printing, binding and mailing for all campaigns to ensure high quality, cost effective and timely production. Knowledge of postal requirements and ensure compliance to regulations. The hours are Monday through Friday 12:30 pm to 10:30 pm from with an hour lunch break. It may be necessary to work extra to make sure that all jobs are completed on time and to assist when the first shift manager is out. First and Second shift Managers work together and report into the Operations Manager for the company.


Job Requirements

• Interview, Hire and oversee training for all second shift employees.
• Hold 4:00 pm shift meetings nightly to review priorities, customer sensitive jobs, objectives for the shift, etc.
• Coach team members each night on quality, production goals and final output for clients.
• Measure performance of each team member nightly and help adjust staffing levels as needed.
• Assist with the bindery schedules daily.
• Have an understanding of how to do the production schedules so when the First Shift Production Manager is on vacation, second shift fills in.
• Oversee the maintenance and cleanliness for equipment. Schedule daily as needed.
• Complete a walk through of the entire building at 630 pm to make sure all doors are locked, that the front office is locked and the conference room is locked.
• Keep shifts notes in managers log during and at the end of the shift to communicate any issues or job priorities to other managers.
• Quality check/sign off on work before each employee begins a new task/project on each piece of equipment throughout your shift. Make adjustments to jobs that are not correct to ensure quality and accuracy are met for each job.
• Quality check/sign off on pre-press as needed.
• Oversee cleanliness and organization of paper storage area.
• Check employees out at the end of their shift to make sure they completed clean up assignments (empty trash, breakdown boxes and recycle, clean down equipment, put product back to storage spots, organize area, restock supplies, completed schedule)

• Review production schedules for the week and staff as needed. Be proactive in staffing to maintain efficient levels.
• Organize completed mail for the next morning and review for accuracy and quality.
• Be on the floor and available during your shift. Lead by example by being on time, professionally dressed, and energized about your work.
• Perform annual reviews for all second shift employees in Production and for Production coordinators.
• Perform 90 day reviews for new hires for all 2nd shift employees in production and production coordinators.

 

Education and Experience:

• Minimum of a High school diploma, college degree preferred
• Must be proficient in printing and direct mail with at least 5 years experience in the industry as well as supervisor experience.
• Knowledge of Microsoft outlook, excel, word
• Must understand digital print, bindery and direct mail equipment and maintenance.

Physical Demands

• Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
• Must be able to stand and walk the production floor to follow up on jobs most of the day.
• Able to sit for a period of time to answer emails, calls and attend meetings.
• Occasional attending of meetings offsite with clients or for training.
• Position requires the employee to work onsite for the entire shift.
